August 1971. The Cumbres snowsheds still existed when the C&TS began operations. But their poor condition posed a safety hazard, and there was neither operational need nor money to preserve them, so all but the sheds at the very tail of the wye were torn down. Unfortunately it changed the ambience at Cumbres substantially.
