July 1963. Alamosa. The Oriental Refinery was the destination for the "Gramps" tank cars loaded with crude oil at Chama. The owner of the refinery was known as Gramps by his grandchildren. The closure of this refinery in 1964 ended the need for winter service over Cumbres and allowed the DRGW to close the line during the winter and use Rio Grande Motorways to truck anything freight that couldn't wait until the snow melted.
