December 1961. Looks to me like 473 is getting a pretty thorough boiler and running gear overhaul. In the background you can see the narrow gauge business car stored inside the shop still in its Pullman green paint. The Alamosa backshop was a far cry from the more modern railroad backshops with their high ceilings and big overhead cranes, it looked little changed from the 1880's when it was built. An interesting contrast can be found in this picture of a more modern shop that also overhauled three foot gauge steam locomotives.
